Miracle League organizers hope to have the field ready for play in spring 2012.

The idea for a Miracle Field came from former MLB star and Upper St. Clair resident, Sean Casey. He and his wife, Mandi, started raising money for the field through Casey's Clubhouse last year. They've raised approximately one million dollars already and hope to raise more.

Wayne Herrod, of Upper St. Clair, has been so moved by the work and dedication of the Caseys, he proposed at last week's board of commissioners meeting that the township name something in honor of the Caseys.

"The chance this man has given to kids with disabilities is a miracle," Herrod said. "Without Sean and Mandi this wouldn't have happened. And they've asked for nothing in return."

Herrod suggested that a road or the Community and Recreation Center baseball field be named after the Caseys. He also suggested putting up some sort of statue by the Miracle Field for them.
