Moving to a new city was overwheling! I am so glad I saw the ad for the Newcomers club. Members were welcoming and a great source of information on everything from health care to restaurants! There were so many opportunities to participate and by attending the events and activities that interested me, I got a jump start on making friends with similar interest and getting to know my way around the community. It is not easy to be the "new girl in town" but being in the Newcomers Club sure helps make it a little easier!

When I first moved here from Maryland, I was traveling Monday-Thursday each week for work - and for the first year and a half, I hardly even met my neighbors. When that job assignment ended, I was finally able to attend a Newcomers coffee one morning. Through that, I learned about the play groups, and quickly joined when we adopted our son. If only I had looked into Newcomers earlier, I would've seen they offered weekend and couples events! I shouldn't have waited a year and a half to meet people. It's not only if you're new to the area - join also if you have a life changing event, like a new empty nest, or a new child, or a new job.

Knowing only my daughter here was fine, but I needed my own crowd! Newcomers offered me the opportunity to explore the city, meet new friends, go out to lunch, theater, dinner, have wine tastings. A group of us even got together and went to NYC for a weekend of theater and exploration. Newcomers is the way to go if you are new to USC, or have had a change in your life situation. Thumbs up!

This club has been a blessing for me! When we moved to USC I was 7 months pregnant. It was hard enough getting through those early days with baby, but having to simultaneously make all new friends was a bit daunting. The Newcomers play group gave me and my son an instant social group. Over time, we have formed some really supportive and genuine friendships through it. I have also enjoyed the family events, couples events, and ladies' nights out. I believe in this club so much that I joined the board and want to spread the word to other families. It is wonderful feeling to be a part of the community and really know my neighbors!
