Rash of Vandalism Prompts Police Alert

Township residents are urged to report suspicious activity.

USC Notify, the emergency notification system launched by Upper St. Clair this year, provided the following message for township residents Tuesday afternoon:

“A rash of criminal mischief spread across the township this summer. It has grown increasingly malicious and destructive to include slashing tires, smashing car windows, hacking at front and garage doors, church windows, lampposts, vehicle entries and mailboxes.

“The police department urges all residents to review security protocol for their home and auto. Report any suspicious noise or activity immediately to the police department at 412-833-7500. Please call promptly and band together to halt this senseless vandalism.”

It is wonderful to know this is in place for the police to notify the residents about serious events. Thank you,

The kids who are doing this live amongst us. Parents...open your eyes to what your kids are doing.

Anyone aware of specific streets or areas affected? I called the USC Police, and they said the incidents were widespread, and in no specific locations. Nice to be kept informed, but troubling, nonetheless.

I wholeheartedly agree with Jim. But we have lots of parents who live in denial. Also, drug paraphanalia has been found in some yards. Police were notified. Parents of small kids, be sure to check your yard bfore they go out to play!

Thanks for posting the alert. Perhaps the Patch can get more info from police reports and write a follow-up?

Why would you call the USC Police and ask for specific locations? Are you assisting in the investigation? Just pay attention and be vigilant around your residence. Don't waste their time with your useless questions.

One of the USC policemen stopped at my house last week to tell me about the incidents and said it has been going on for about three weeks here in Deerfield Monor. I have been leaving on ALL of my outdoor lighting over night. Have the news on now and they just mentioned the broken church window here in USC.

I have lost 2 tires on my jeep and others items. Now I just keep a close eye. This goes on every summer.

william atwell July 18, 2012 at 09:46 PM
And from what I have seen it is girls and boys.
James July 18, 2012 at 09:48 PM
My friend lives on Kings Lane....says it's hard to tell what is/isn't vandalized with that eye sore of a yard in the middle of the street.
william atwell July 18, 2012 at 10:00 PM
@ wake up I have not seen a eye sore on kings lane. Will have to look for it
william atwell July 18, 2012 at 10:04 PM
One poor neighbor I guess got vandalism and put out cameras they caught 2 girls and 2 boys who where responsible. Another had a mail box knocked over. And last night someone took flags from another neighbors yard. Such a shame no one can stop em
william atwell July 18, 2012 at 10:16 PM
@ wake up how is it impressing a investigation when a concerned citizen may want to find out what the pattern of crimes are like? Plus as tax payers it's a waste of time of we don't ask what, where and when. The epi center may be a certain area and if someone knows where epi center is we may look closer at maybe it's a kid from a neighborhood or friends or a ex gf. I have seen the rash of vandlism every summer for last 10 or so years up here. It's just nuts
william atwell July 18, 2012 at 10:20 PM
Just keep a vigil. And hopefully by time school starts this will stop
James July 18, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Pretty sure Robert was trying to be nebby and wanting to know more than he should. Everyone needs to worry about themselves.....if that would happen this world would be a much better place.
william atwell July 18, 2012 at 10:41 PM
This is why when I saw people in the neighbors chair next to me last night I didnt call police or when they went to other neighbors yard. Non of business
william atwell July 18, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Plus I don't want to get involved don't know who's shovel and rakes they had either
Robert A. Shoaf July 19, 2012 at 01:25 PM
Wake Up Perhaps you should " wake up" and cease the insults. You don't know me from Adam, yet you are "pretty sure" that I "wanted to be nebby." I don't know you ( thankfully) but your "comment" speals volumes.
Robert A. Shoaf July 19, 2012 at 03:10 PM
I meant speaks volumes.
