Upper St. Clair Swimming Community 'Breaks the Ice'

The Upper St. Clair Swim Club and Upper St. Clair High School swim and dive teams are hosting a fundraiser at Outback.

To promote and enjoy camaraderie among its swim community, Upper St. Clair Swim Club and the Swim/Dive Booster organization are joining together to “break the ice” and provide an afternoon of fun in hopes to raise much needed funds for a combined high school/swim club record board for USC swimmers and divers, ages 5 to 18.

The “Break the Ice” fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at in USC, with open seating from noon to 2 p.m. Tickets include a lunch of three choices and a chance to win a Pittsburgh Sport Package of four tickets to a Penguins home game in a Loge box and Pitt basketball tickets, together valued at more than $900.

“We view this event as a way to allow USC’s aqua community to come together, but away from the pool,” head coach Tom Donati said. “The synergy that has been created among our athletes and their families continues to grow. This is a perfect time to get together, raise some money for a great cause, and enjoy the excitement.”

With over 100 families involved in the USC Swim Club and additional USC families involved with the USC High School Swim and Dive Team, USC Swim Club president Doug Shaffer believes “it’s a great way for families to get better acquainted with each other outside of the pool atmosphere.”

With 23 high school swim and dive records falling last year due to a season of fast swims in the pool and high scoring dives on the board, there’s no better time to focus on a record board that showcases both high school and pool records, enveloping the cost of one into the other, thus reducing the overall cost if undertaken separately.

Both the swim club and the booster organization invite the community to join; you don’t have to be a swimmer or diver to attend, but you can help to “break the ice” and get USC’s swim community closer to their record board goal.
