Why You Should Thank the School Board This Month

January is school director recognition month in Pennsylvania.

January is school director recognition month and Upper St. Clair School District officials and the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) are urging residents to thank the school board.

"There is no more important mission in the community than leading our children's education," Superintendent Patrick O'Toole said.

The PSBA estimated that each board member devotes more than 20 hours a month on the job and learns about things that may be out of his or her comfort zone, all with no pay.

The elected volunteers are your neighbors, community leaders, parents at the school or engaged senior citizens making decisions on budgets, curriculum and paths to student achievement.

"It really is fulfilling because you get to see the results of your hard work when the children perform well and grow to see them become successful citizens of the community." Dr. O'Toole said.
