Upper St. Clair Students Bring 'Hope for Haiti'

Fort Couch Middle School French students collect goods to send to Haiti.

Before school let out for the summer, French students from spent much of their time collecting and assembling goods for the earthquake-ravaged country of Haiti.

Teacher Erin Lemon helped students organize the project they decided to call "Hope for Haiti."

The students focused on three different drives. One was for a small school still rebuilding after earthquake that serves students 60 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Students packed up pens, pencils, paper, craft supplies, scissors, markers and glue.

Another "Hope for Haiti" project focused on 21 children in an orphanage. Each orphan received a package with clothing, shoes, a towel and a blanket from the Fort Couch students.

The students also collected toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, washcloths, vitamins and small toys to assemble 125 hygiene kits for children living in Hope Village, a tent city near Port-au-Prince.
