Upper St. Clair Recognizes Retiring Teachers

Applause, laughter, even some tears.

Emotions ran high as the Upper St. Clair School Board recognized six retiring teachers on Tuesday night.

There was applause and laughter and even some tears.

"We are losing outstanding people who are part of our schools' success," Superintendent Patrick O'Toole said.

"Upper St. Clair is a special place, and it's a special place because of what you have done," school Director Angela Petersen said.

The following teachers were honored at the meeting:

  • Robin Forgerson-Pleta, Eisenhower Elementary School resource teacher, spent her 35-year career with the Upper St. Clair School District.
  • Anna Marie Glowaski, Boyce Middle School art teacher, began her 32 years with Upper St. Clair at the old Johnson Elementary School.
  • Robin Shoup, Fort Couch Middle School librarian, started her career with Upper St. Clair as a long-term substitute teacher at Upper St. Clair High School and plans to spend time volunteering and caring for her three grandchildren.
  • Barbara Starr, Streams Elementary School teacher, spent 35 years at Streams Elementary and was a finalist for the Teacher Excellence program chosen by residents.
  • Kimberly Watt, high school math teacher, plans to golf, play tennis, paddle and learn to fly fish and cook in her retirement. O'Toole joked that the guidance department would be glad to see Watt go because of all the requests they get from parents to have their students in her classes.
  • Patricia Zapp, high school resource teacher, began with the high school in 1975 and has become the school's unofficial historian.
The board also honored Megan Adamo for being the student representative at its meetings for the entire school year.
