Students Honored with Rotary Club's Tech Awards

Bethel/St. Clair Rotary Club recognizes exceptional technology students during 25th annual banquet.

The Bethel-St. Clair Evening Rotary Club hosted their 25th annual Tech Awards banquet at the Thursday night, honoring the outstanding achievements of Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair students in the technical field.

"This is a program where we get to recognize a group of very deserving kids," said club president Herman Dieckmann. "To honor 'A' students is one thing, but to honor these kids that do things in technology is great, too."

Upper St. Clair teacher Fred Peskorski presented Megan Small (graphics), Paul VanRyzin (engineering) and Kenny Sukitch (architecture) with individual plaques in recognition of their achievements.

Manufacturing teacher Tim Stash presented achievement awards to students C.J. Murray (manufacturing) and John Kyriacopoulos (manufacturing).

An example of the projects the students were honored for is an adirondack chair that Murray built, partially constructed of hockey sticks. That should come as no surprise, considering Murray helped lead Upper St. Clair's hockey team to a state championship and was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette high school hockey Player of the Year.

Representing Bethel Park, Nicole Hester was presented with an award for achievement in air transportation systems, and Brett Moorman was recognized for his work in power/energy systems.

Gregory Pohodich received a plaque for achievement in automation systems, while Mark Render was honored for engineering design.
