Beyonce Helps Upper St. Clair Students Get Moving

The physical education teachers at Boyce Middle School used dance when space was limited.

The physical education teachers at made the best out of a bad situation when their renovated school gym couldn't be ready in time for the school year.

The gym was scheduled to be ready in August 2011, but because of , it took crews until January 2012 to finish, according to Principal Karen Brown.

That left the physical education teachers with just the LGI room to conduct gym class once the temperatures dropped.

However, Peter Serio and Dana Mellinger got creative. They decided to create a dance with the students.

Instead of doing the old square dance (which I remember doing during gym class in elementary school), Serio and Mellinger used a high-tempo Beyonce song to get the students interested.

The dance was also inspired by first lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative.
