Ward 5 Commissioner Candidate: Russell Del Re

Candidate profile for the upcoming primary election on May 17.

Commissioner Russell Del Re is running for a second term on the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners because he wants to "keep the township on the road it is going right now."

"We have a very efficient board with the same goal in mind. We don't micromanage and we understand our roles as policy makers," Del Re said. "We are very transparent. There is no rhetoric."

Del Re has lived in Upper St. Clair for 25 years and has four sons.

"I want to keep Upper St. Clair the most desirable place to live in Pennsylvania and in the nation," Del Re said.

Del Re said he has the skills to do so. As a general superintendent at P.J. Dick, Inc., Del Re said he has a strong background in construction which helps him serve as a commissioner. Serving on the school board from 2003-2005 and on a variety of committees has also helped Del Re know how the township expenses work.

One of his main goals is to hold the line on taxes. He said he is always looking for innovative ways to balance the budget.

Other issues he sees the township facing are making sure the new is self-sustaining, new commercial development in the township and pension responsibilities.

Another challenge Del Re, the current chair of the public works committee, said he sees coming are how the budget cuts in Harrisburg may affect fuel reimbursement. He said keeping the roads nice in Upper St. Clair is a major expense and the township must maintain a good road program.

"I'm a realist with common sense. I have no agenda or personal inspirations," Del Re said.

Del Re said he enjoys giving back to the community and would like to continue the opportunity.
