Ward 1 Commissioner Candidate: Nicholas Seitanakis

Candidate profile for the upcoming primary election on May 17.

Nicholas Seitanakis is running for a seat on the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners. It is his first time running for an elected position since law school.

"It's a position where I can do some good serving the community," Seitanakis said.

Seitanakis believes his background and experience would help him excel at the job. He has been practicing law since 1993, providing in-house counsel to corporations such as PNC, Federated Investors, FreeMarkets and Fisher Scientific.

Currently, Seitanakis works for Co-eXprise, where he helps municipal governments get market price for their mineral rights. 

"My experience matches the challenges that might await," Seitanakis said. "I have municipal finance experiences and a decent amount of government legal work, on the federal, state and local levels."

Seitanakis moved his family to Upper St. Clair in 1998 because of the quality of the community, the quality of the schools and the quality of living. 

His wife, Kristin, grew up in Upper St. Clair. They have a daughter who attends and a son in .

"I feel like I have a good understanding of the community," said Seitanakis, who also spends a lot of time volunteering with the .

Seitanakis said he plans to closely follow the proposed Consol Energy site redevelopment, as it is an important issue for the community.

He also said he plans on being careful on how the government spends tax dollars.

"We need to figure out ways to make more with less," Seitanakis said. "We need to leverage existing resources and try to find strategies to make government more efficient."

Seitanakis is running unopposed for the Ward 1 commissioner seat. Incumbent Preston Shimer is not running for another term.
