Upper St. Clair Commissioners to Consider Goddard School Zoning Monday Night

A change in the township code's definition of what a day care is could allow the day care center to be built next to KinderCare.

Upper St. Clair commissioners will likely make a decision Monday night that will greatly affect the possible addition of The Goddard School into the township.

The owner of the land next to KinderCare of Mt. Lebanon and the owner of The Goddard School in Peters Township have asked that the commissioners to change the definition of a day care in the township code to allow for the day care center on North Highland Road. There is currently an older, yellow house on the property.

The Upper St. Clair Planning Commission voted against the proposal due to concerns about how the property would be developed, which included grading and retaining walls.

There is also a problem because the zoning law states the daycare must be built on at least one acre of land and the property is .994 acres.

The proposal has brought strong opinions from both sides. People living in the neighborhood near the property oppose the daycare’s construction while parents who take their children to the Goddard in McMurray praise the school.

The commissioners' first hearing on the issue took place in April.

Commissioners will also consider a proposal to build an apartment complex off of Boyce Road.
