Speed Humps a Possibility for Part of Hays Road

Neighbors in Peters say that traffic and speeding are problems.

By Amanda Gillooly

Members of 21 households along the Peters Township portion of Hays Road have petitioned the Peters Township Council to explore a traffic-calming study there.

And while township Manager Michael Silvestri said that that wouldn't be immediately possible, a short-term solution might be.

The Peters Council on Monday directed Silvestri to explore the possibility of placing portable speed humps on the road.

Silvestri said that the throughway has been greatly impacted by Valley Brook Road construction and has experienced twice its normal traffic since that work began.

Residents, he said, have expressed concern over that traffic volume as well as speeding in the area.

Silvestri said that Peters officials, which generally conduct just one traffic-calming study at a time, are completing one study on Maple Lane.

A similar study of Hays will likely begin sometime next year.
