Reassessment Town Halls Planned

South Hills homeowners can attend a property reassessment town hall meeting at the Chartiers Valley Intermediate School auditorium on April 4.

Allegheny County is planning several town hall meetings in various communities over the next couple of weeks to address questions about the property reassessment process.

County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald will join Mike Finnerty, who is this area’s county councilman, for a town hall meeting on April 4 at 7 p.m. inside the .

The meeting is two days after the deadline for property owners to file their formal appeals, but Finnerty said it was the only date they could reserve the school’s auditorium to hold the large crowd that is expected to attend.

“We have the room for a big crowd,” Finnerty said. “That’s one of the reasons we wanted that big auditorium.”

He’s not concerned about the date of the town hall, however, because the meeting is designed to explain why the county is reassessing and inform people about what to bring to their assessment hearings and appeals. Finnerty added that he hopes that anyone who wants to appeal their assessment would have already done so by now.

The town halls will include a presentation on the reassessment process, how to prepare for appeals and informal reviews and other options to reducing one’s property assessment. The chief executive will also take questions from the audience and there will be county staff at the town hall to assist filling out various legal forms.

Besides the April 4 meeting in Scott Township, the county has schedule several other town halls around the area. There is no cost to attend and property owners do not need to register.
