Public Hearing Set for New Daycare Proposal

The facility is proposed for North Highland Road.

Upper St. Clair commissioners established an April 1 public hearing for the applicant trying to bring The Goddard School to the township.

Commissioners will hear public testimony on a proposal to amend the township's zoning law to allow a daycare facility to be built at 1630 North Highland Rd. The location is behind the Trader Joe's and Chick-fil-A, and next to KinderCare of Mt. Lebanon.

The township's current zoning does not allow daycare facilities on the property. The current zoning would allow similar facilities, such as a nursing home, on the property if it acquired an additional .006 of an acre of land (the ordinance requires 1 acre).

The planning commission voted last month to deny the request.

"They had concerns about how the property would develop and how it would impact the surrounding single-family residential area," Director of Community Development Scott Brilhart told the board of commissioners.
