Pool Expansion Included in Approved Five-Year Plan

The recreation department is requesting $2.5 million to expand pool areas at the Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park.

The commissioners passed on Monday night, which includes designating $2.5 million in 2013 for pool expansion at the .

"We would like to potentially enhance the outdoor pool and possibly an instructional pool inside," Director of Recreation and Leisure Services Paul Besterman said. 

Besterman said the outdoor pool gets packed in the summer and he would like to add water surface area.

An indoor instructional pool would allow for a better area to give lessons and also provide a good spot for lap swimming.

"It's what we see as important as the membership growth continues," he said.

Currently 9,500 members belong to the Community and Recreation Center. Besterman said the facility can currently serve that amount of people, but as membership grows, they "never want to be in a position to underserve."
