Outdoor Seating for Chipotle Pending Approval

Two-foot-high metal planters would be added to the area to 'obstruct the table from view from the neighbors.'

Don't expect to eat burritos in the sun quite yet.

Plans to add a patio with outdoor seating at the Chipotle Mexican Grill in Upper St. Clair Township near the South Hills Village Mall are still up in the air.

After a brief public hearing in front of the Upper St. Clair Township Board of Commissioners on Monday night, there was no decision made over whether or not to approve the project.

The planning commission reviewed the restaurant's application to expand its seating on June 20 and gave the project its approval and recommendation to the commissioners.

Two-foot-high metal planters would be added to the area to "obstruct the table from view from the neighbors," according to Jason Welker, who spoke in representation for Chipotle.

The potential patio is under an existing overhang, so tables will not need umbrellas. The plan also includes three parking spaces for the outdoor dining area that were added on in a six-space expansion of the Norman Center parking lot.

Chipotle's public hearing will continue on Sept. 3.
