Those pesky orange barrels are beginning their march down Route 50.

Lane restrictions began Monday night at the four-lane section of the roadway near  in Collier.

Single-lane closures will occur as needed in both directions while crews begin construction on the stretch of road. will repair the road surface while upgrading traffic signals, sidewalks, bridges and guardrails along the 3.5-mile stretch of road between Bridgeville and Carnegie.

PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said the work is scheduled to happen weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., and between 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Daytime restrictions during weekdays will happen periodically when additional construction work is needed.

No work will be done during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, Struzzi said.
