Health Department Announces Nine New Food Establishments

An Upper St. Clair restaurant makes the list using trans-fat free cooking oils.

The Allegheny County Health Department reports nine new food establishments opened in the county in January, including one in Upper St. Clair. There were eight restaurants and a confectionary.

“The health department’s monthly reports identify which new restaurants use trans-fat free cooking oils, and five out of the eight eateries opening last month cook with these healthier oils,” said Acting County Health Director Dr. Ron Voorhees.

The restaurants using trans-fat free cooking oils are Bonefish Grill, 1835 Washington Rd., Upper St. Clair; Thin Man Sandwich Shop, 50 21st St., Strip District; The Grateful Deli And Catering Company, 4065 Penn Ave., Bloomfield; Maxime’s Mediterranean, 937 Beaver Grade Rd., Suite 5, Moon; and Tables On The Green, 1299 Lane Ave., Harrison.

Three other restaurants opened in January:  Gaucho Parrilla Argentina, 1607 Penn Avenue, Strip District; Pizzarita, 580 Burchfield Road, Shaler; and Fortune Star, 4100 William Penn Highway, Monroeville.

An additional food establishment opened last month:  Sinful Sweets, 901 Penn Avenue, Downtown.
