Hays Road Development Hearing Tabled Until August

The second public hearing will take place on Aug. 1.

The continued public hearing on the proposed residential development on Hays Road was tabled at the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday night.

The developer, W.C. McCloskey Family LP, made the request to the township to table the hearing until Monday, Aug. 1.

The developer is seeking approval from the commissioners to build a 37-lot single-family home subdivision adjacent to Hays Park.

Kim Gales, representative for the developer, has asked the township to permit 30 feet from the curb to the new homes instead of the required 50 feet to allow construction of houses with first floor master bedrooms and first floor garages that face the road. 

A number of residents have voiced their concerns about the development. At the first public hearing, residents said there is already flooding problems in the area and are afraid the construction could cause more issues.

Ray Berrott is one of the neighbors who received the letter, and spoke at Tuesday night's meeting.

"I'm not against development," Berrott said. "I just ask that you think about the traffic situation on Hays Road, especially with your sidewalk plan."

Berrott was referring to the sidewalks and bikeways plan developed in 1998 and available online. The township suggests a sidewalk from Route 19 to Hays Park "would allow the pedestrian traffic along Hays Road to travel safely without becoming a hazard to motorists."

Residents will have the opportunity to speak at the rescheduled public hearing on Monday, Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the .
