Flood of Concern About New Residential Development

Homeowners near a proposed 16-lot development are worried about stormwater management.

A number of residents are worried about a proposed 16-lot development for Willowbrook Road, Willowbrook Road Extension and Oaklawn Drive.

Many of the homeowners who testified at Monday night's said they had concerns about stormwater management. They said when it rains, their backyards—and some of their front yards—become swamps.

"I can guarantee we will not cause flooding to adjoining properties," responded Kim Gales, representative for developer Allen Sherwood. "Stormwater management is my expertise."

"This is very good to receive all these comments," said Ruthann Omer, the township's engineer. "They're (the developer) going to have to show how they'll (the concerns) be addressed."

Other worries included speeding and increased traffic on the residential roads with school-age children.

"Your comments aren't going to deaf ears," said Russell Del Re, vice president of the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners. "I'm going to check out the properties."

The developer is proposing to connect Oaklawn Drive—which is currently a cul-de-sac—to the development and create a dedicated open space in the rear of the lots.

The lots are located at 2534, 2550, 2554 and 2560 Willowbrook Road, which is equivalent to 10.16 acres.

The homes would cost $400,000 to $500,000.

The hearing was continued until the next regular board of commissioners meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 4.
