First Fall Leaf Collection on Saturday

Yard waste is collected six times in the fall.

The first yard waste and leaf material pickup in Upper St. Clair is Saturday, Oct. 22.

Pennsylvania law restricts the placement of yard waste in landfills. To comply with the law, the township contracts for separate collection of leaves, plants, garden residue, chipped shrubbery, tree trimming and grass clippings six times in the fall and once in the spring on Saturdays. Additional collection dates may be added if deemed necessary by the township.

During the collection, yard waste and leaf material must be placed in compostable paper bags. Limbs and branches are to be bundled and are not to exceed three inches in diameter and 48 inches long.

The five following fall collection dates are Oct. 29; Nov. 5; Nov. 12; Nov. 19; and Dec. 3. The bags must be placed on the curb before 6 a.m. on collection day.

Residents should also note that due to the wide availability of leaf bags in local stores and the declining sale of leaf bags by the USC Lions Club, they have decided not to sell the bags this fall.
