"It's the people I work with, the flexibility of my part-time job, the beautiful facility, being able to interact with the members of the community," said Troutman, who is also a resident of the township.

"As a taxpayer I'm glad to see my tax dollars going to something successful," she said.

Karen Huckenstein, a resident of Upper St. Clair and employee of the school district, also said it was no shock to her when the township received the honor.

Cathie Scudiero works with the public works department and fields complaint calls from residents on many days—and even she said the township is a great place to work.

"It's nice to go home at the end of the day and know you helped somebody," she said.

The township's new title was announced in the Post-Gazette on Thursday. The newspaper teamed up with Workplace Dynamics to field nominations and survey employees to whittle the list down to the top places to work in the Pittsburgh region.

"They were extensive questionnaires that a majority of township employees took the time to fill out," said George Kostelich, public works director. "And to actually be 16 is great. We think it's accurate."

A total of 85 places in the Pittsburgh area were chosen as the best. Upper St. Clair Township was ranked 16th out of the 25 mid-size best places to work.

"We're trying to hire now so we want people to see this award," Kostelich said. "Even though everyone tries to hire the best people, somehow we do."
