Deerfield Manor Plan to Come Up for Vote

Residents are concerned about the effects of connecting streets.

Residents of Upper St. Clair’s Deerfield Manor neighborhood continue to object to a proposal that would eliminate cul-de-sacs.

Deerfield Manor Plan No. 9 calls for connecting Turnberry and Circle drives, which would allow for through traffic in accordance with the township’s public improvement code. Those streets also would be connected to another section of Circle Drive, in Peters Township.

Upper St. Clair commissioners are expected to vote Monday, Aug. 6, on the preliminary subdivision for the plan, which received the township planning commission’s recommendation July 19.

At that meeting, three Deerfield Manor residents spoke out against the plan to connect the streets, including Bill and Connie Karis of Turnberry Drive. Since then, they have circulated an “open letter to township commissioners” expressing safety concerns, particularly about a connection to the Circle Drive in Peters.

“It is clear that virtually all of the traffic heading north via Boyce Road from Circle Dr. and connecting streets in Peters Township will cut through Deerfield,” the letter states in part.

A previous plan to maintain the cul-de-sacs failed to win commissioners’ approval, with a resolution in March receiving three yes votes, three no and one abstention.
