Another Step Forward for Casey's Clubhouse

The board of commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding between the township and the Miracle League of South Hills.

A Miracle Field in Upper St. Clair became another step closer to reality after the board of commissioners voted to approve a legal contract between the township and Miracle League of South Hills.

Under the agreement, the township will be responsible for trash pick-up and day-to-day maintenance. The Miracle League of South Hills is required to pay for any capital improvements, such as field damage.

Former MLB player and Upper St. Clair resident Sean Casey, and his wife, Mandi, are raising money to build the custom-designed field with a cushioned, rubberized surface for people with special needs to be able to play baseball. It will be constructed in Boyce Mayview Park, near the Community and Recreation Center.

The fundraising began last fall and the organization is now making sure it raises enough money to maintain the field over the years.

"It's been an incredibly successful capital campaign," said David Hall, of the Miracle League of South Hills. "We are dedicated in sustaining the field for the future."

The Miracle Field surface life is an estimated ten years.

The Miracle League will take place on six to eight weekends in the spring and the fall and will be comprised of 10 to 15 teams.

The Miracle League of South Hills also hopes to make the field available for other organizations when it is not being used by the Miracle League. However, organizations interested in using the field must request permission from the township.

A playground designed for children with special needs will be constructed behind the outfield at a later date. It will be open for the public to use.
