Upper St. Clair Man Sentenced for Selling Cocaine

David Curran will serve nearly 22 years in prison, 10 years of probation and must pay more than $1 million as gross proceeds of the crimes he was convicted of committing.

An resident was sentenced Tuesday to 21 years and 10 months in prison followed by 10 years of probation for violating federal drug-trafficking laws.

David Curran, formerly of 336 Brookside Boulevard, of conspiring to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and then distributing cocaine.

Curran was ordered to begin serving his sentence immediately. Curran was also ordered to forfeit his Upper St. Clair home, a 2003 Land Rover and $16,580 that was seized by authorities.

In addition, Curran was ordered to pay a money judgment in the amount of $1,080,000 as gross proceeds of the crimes he was convicted of committing.

According to the Post-Gazette, Curran didn't think the sentence was fair.

"Your honor, you gave me 22 years in prison, 10 years probation and you're asking me to pay $1 million?" he shouted to Judge U.S. District Judge Terrence F. McVerry as he was led away in handcuffs and leg shackles. "I don't know how you all sleep at night."

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.

U.S. Attorney Hickton commended the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police; the Pittsburgh Division of Weed and Seed; the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office; the Pennsylvania State Police; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the United States Marshals Service; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Curran.
