Sarris Candies Back in Full Production One Year After Fire

One year ago today, crews responded to a structure fire at the local shop.

Following a fire one year ago today—Feb 3, 2012—at the Sarris Candies plant in Canonsburg, company President Bill Sarris announced that all is well and that the company is back in full production in preparation for the early Easter holiday.

“We got through last Easter with a limited amount of items available due to the fire," Athena Sarris, chief executive officer, said. "We lost a lot of chocolate molds and weren’t able to provide the selection we’ve had in years past."

That won't be a problem this year, though.

"But this season, we’ll have a huge selection of new bunnies and novelties to fill everyone’s baskets,” she continued.

Over the past year, new construction of all devastated areas—including the ice cream parlor and candy store—was completed with the concerted efforts of the company's dedicated employees and contractors.

With on-site coordination and expertise, equipment was replaced or repaired, rewired, cleaned and restarted, in order to restore the supply of chocolates to all Sarris customers.

Company officials said they would like to thank the following:

The local fire departments, police, the Canonsburg community, Sarris' vendors and retailers, the Sarris employees who continue to do whatever it takes to meet customer requirements, the contractors who continue to work relentlessly putting the finishing touches on facility reconstruction, local governments, their representatives, and Sarris suppliers—whose partnership and cooperation has been invaluable—and finally, its customers, "whose loyalty and dedication made our recovery and continued success plausible."
