Retail theft charges against a Bethel Park man will be reduced to summary offenses if he finishes a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Vincent M. Mamone, 47, must finish the evaluation within 45 days if the charges are to be reduced after his preliminary hearing with District Judge Robert Wyda on April 1.

Upper St. Clair police said Mamone stole shoes, socks and Carhart jeans worth a combined $116 from Sears on Jan. 16.

Nathan J. Saffer, 18, of Bethel Park, agreed to 40 hours of community service or working 80 hours in ordre to have three charges of prohibited acts reduced. District Judge Robert Wyda agreed to reduce the charges to summary disorderly conduct citation if Saffer completes the program. Police said they found Saffer in possession of drugs when he was stopped at Route 19 and Brookside Boulevard on Feb. 26.
