Police Release Surveillance Pictures of Louis Vuitton Handbag Heist

Police said the five suspects, working together, grabbed pricey handbags off the displays and were gone in less than a minute.

Ross Township police have released photos of the five people suspected of a coordinated-shoplifting hit on the Louis Vuitton store in the Ross Park Mall Thursday night.

Police said the five walked into the store around 8 p.m., and working together, grabbed the pricey handbags off the displays and were gone in about 30 seconds.

By the time employees realized what was going on it was too late.

"The employees did attempt to confront the actors when they fled the store," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "No one was injured and no customers were ever in danger."

Kohlhepp said the group left the mall in a car, but there is not a good description of the vehicle.

"The group appears to be a mix of male and females all in their 20s or early 30s and all appear to be African American," said Kohlhepp. "There are witnesses and we are following a number of investigative leads at this time."

As for the value of what was stolen, neither the store nor Ross Police will say for sure.

But when it comes to Louis Vuitton, a common phrase has been "if you have to ask how much they cost, you probably can't afford one."

If you have any information about the theft, please contact Ross Township Police at 412-931-9070.
