News Nearby: Dunkin' Donuts Robbed

Police say a robbery Monday morning at Dunkin Donuts in Dormont is similar to another robbery that occurred in the plaza in February.

police are investigating a Monday-morning robbery that bears striking similarities to a robbery that occurred in the same plaza earlier this year.

in Dormont Village Plaza on West Liberty Avenue was robbed at gunpoint just before 7 a.m. Monday, with employees and patrons inside the store.

According to Dormont police Officer Tom Maloney, a man came into the store pointing a gun and demanded money. The man was given $538 in cash from two registers, and then he fled in the direction of Mississippi Avenue.

The incident mirrors that occurred at in the same plaza in February.

"The coincidences are too much not to look at," Maloney said. "These are two stores that normally don't get robbed, in the same area, same way."

In both cases, Maloney said, the suspect was completely clothed from head to toe, with only his eyes showing. Both stores were robbed at gunpoint, and in both cases, the suspect fled in the direction of Mississippi Avenue.

What makes this incident more concerning, Maloney said, is that this time, patrons were inside the store during the robbery.

"That's concerning," he said. "With the Little Caesar's case, it happened in the evening and no one was in the store. This is almost like (the suspect) is getting bolder, or more desperate."

No injuries were reported, and Dunkin' Donuts continued normal operation Monday.

Surveillance footage of the Little Caesar's incident will be released on WPXI later this evening, Maloney said. Footage from Dunkin' Donuts has been given to Dormont police, but can't be released to the public until approved by the Dunkin' Donuts corporate office, he said.

Those with information about the incident should contact Dormont Police at 412-561-8900, ext. 300.
