Missing Man Found Dead off Montour Trail

Police said just after 9 a.m. that a man's body was found off the Montour Trail.

A 69-year-old Coraopolis man reported missing has been found dead off the Montour Trail. 

Chief Leo McCarthy said Peter Cortese, who was listed as living on the 400 block of Fairborough Court in Coraopolis, was found dead at 8:50 a.m. off the trailway in Robinson Township, near the Moon border.

Robinson Lt. Ed Krall said Cortese's body was located by authorities about a quarter of a mile from Hassam Road, just off the trail. He said the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office removed Cortese from the area and found no initial signs of foul play.

Area police and firefighters aided by search dogs scoured the area off Hassam Road Thursday night searching for the man. Police said he parked his car at 5:30 p.m. off the Montour Trail on Hassam Road.

Police said the man was considered endangered at the time of his disappearance. 

In addition to Moon police and firefighters, police from Robinson and Coraopolis searched the area until 3 a.m. with the help of Canine Aided Emergency Search & Rescue Dogs but found no sign of the man. 

Authorities continued the search this morning. 

Cortese is the former director of vendor relations at La Roche College. He was employed at the college for more than 30 years, according to a La Roche newsletter.
