Man Charged With Breaking Into Upper St. Clair Home

A theft victim in Upper St. Clair helped police track down the suspect with an iPad app.

Jason Paul Hoffman, 33, of Mt. Washington, was held for court on four charges, including burglary, on Monday in district Judge Robert Wyda's courtroom.

The victim looked up the location of the iPad after returning to the Glo Min Drive home to find it had been burglarized and called 911, according to the criminal complaint filed by Upper St. Clair police.

Prosecutors accused Hoffman of breaking into the home by climbing on a piece of outdoor furniture on a raised deck into an unlocked window at the home. 

Along with the iPad, Hoffman is accused of stealing jewelry, cash and other electronics, according to the complaint.

Judge Wyda also heard the following theft cases, both of which were continued:

  • Jerome Edward Coulehan, 24, of Brookline, is charged with stealing more than $900 in clothing from Macy's. 
  • Geoffrey W. Staley, 23, of McMurray, is charged with stealing a bottle of cologne from Sears.
