Yet Another Senseless Killing at the Hands of One With Poor Judgment...and a Gun
One of the latest senseless and inexplicable acts of gun slaughter occurred in Bloomfield in recent days when a Pittsburgh police officer that has been off work and receiving disability payments for three years brought his weapon to a bar and got into an argument with a longtime "friend", killing him.
What sensible person would bring a firearm into a bar where he and others, including strangers to him, are becoming intoxicated? One can also ask why one would go to an neighborhood bar to drink in the first place, not knowing how others will handle their liquor and whether any of them are armed. This, after all, was not the lounge at the Fairmont Hotel.
When a man was shot to death at a local grocery store in broad daylight last year after an argument, I asked whether the shooter was pleased that he had his gun with him on that day to settle disputes. When George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin to death, I and many others asked why a neighborhood watch participant would violate the tenets of the organization by carrying a gun. Now, another person is dead and families torn apart due to the poor judgment of the killer, aided by his trusty firearm.
