The Pittsburgh Zoo Does What it Must As It Defends Itself from an Unfortunate Lawsuit

When the Derkosh family lost their son in a horrific incident at the Pittsburgh Zoo, they had the sympathy and prayers of caring individuals throughout the world.

Due to their unfortunate decision to sue the zoo for damages, this treasured Pittsburgh institution has become a sympathetic entity.

The zoo has been forced to do what it would not ever have chosen to had the matter been set to rest and the community permitted to heal: to defend itself by asserting negligence on the part of the mother.  What would one expect, that the zoo would roll over, plead "nolo contendre", and invite attorneys to pick its pockets clean?

In today's society, there are no tragic accidents.  Everything is someone's fault and one generally seeks out the deepest pockets in order to cash in.

The horror of an accidental catastrophe has been needlessly compounded.
