Pennsylvania State Senate Finds Time at the Eleventh Hour to Deal with Nonsense

Those who are concerned about state government issues know that we are currently at the eleventh hour, the Legislature having not yet approved a budget that is due this coming Sunday per the State Constitution, and it has failed to deal with critical issues, including transportation funding, privatization of the state liquor system, and whether to add 800,000 Pennsylvanians to the welfare rolls through the expansion of Medicaid.

Is there constant work on these issues so that the House and Senate may reach agreement?  Of course not!

Without shame, the State Senate on Wednesday, 26 June, four days before the budget is due, had time to consider a host of irrelevant minutiae, including to receive a presentation and vote on a resolution designating September as Pennsylvania Mushroom month.  Are the members embarrassed?  No! When did appearing foolish and wasting valuable time ever bother these folks?

One who watches the shenanigans of our "leaders" on the wonderful Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) can see why we "need" a full-time, highly compensated body of legislators.  Where would the Commonwealth be if we did not use the heft of our legislators to sufficiently promote the mushroom?

PCN provides regular doses of tragic comedy, a window into the wacky world of Pennsylvania state government.  It would all be hysterical if it were not being committed at the expense of the taxpayer and concerned citizen.
