Governor Corbett Encounters a Brick Wall - Erected by his Fellow Republicans

I have to believe that Republican members of the State House and Senate were delighted when fiscal conservative and crime-fighter Tom Corbett was elected to the lead the Commonwealth, but some thanks he has been provided for keeping his campaign pledge to rein in state spending and not increase taxes.
Three critical and laudable Corbett initiatives (transportation funding, privatization of liquor sales, and addressing the metastasizing $47 billion pension fund shortfall) have been stalled not by Democrats, but by his fellow Republicans, who are unable to reach agreement on anything of substance and importance.  What has the state GOP devoted its efforts to in the meantime?  Has it acted to reform or reduce ruinous property taxes, to eliminate the onerous state death (inheritance) tax on all currently subject to it, to devise a replacement for the income or sales taxes as has been tackled in other states?  No, it has spent its time passing a proclamation to declare a "Day of Fasting" and now, a measure that would harness the police powers of government to FORCE all schools to display "In God We Trust" (Thanks a lot, Representative RIck Saccone; at least you have provided us with some tragic comedy).
How can it be that state GOP "leaders" are telling their governor to drop dead?  The failure to pass essential legislation is a black mark against them and in many respects keeps the Commonwealth from moving forward.  There should be a price to pay for such intransigence, but those that have exhibited it are betting that will not be the case.
