Upper Saint Clair Township Lags Allegheny County in the Remitting of Tax Payments

Why Must Township Residents Pay a $3 Fee to Pay Their Taxes By Electronic Check? - There is No Valid Reason

It is rare that Allegheny County outshines Upper Saint Clair Township for modernity and efficiency, but on the issue iof remitting tax payments, that is the case.

I paid my county tax bill electronically this year as I have in the past, with no fee assessed for the privilege, and I receive an electronic receipt.  Credit card companies and utilities charge no fee for this service either. Upper Saint Clair Township and its agent, Jordan Tax Service, levy a fee of $3 (formerly $1.50) for the same transaction the county provides gratis.  Apparently the Township and Jordan Tax Service like to process mailed, paper checks rather than to operate in the most cost-efficient, simple manner.

I have raised the issue with the Township's Finance Director and Commissioners, who have failed to adopt a fee-free system.

Shouldn't meeting our tax burdens be made as easy as possible for us and for the tax collectors?  I write and mail few checks in this era of electronic remittance.  When will the Township join the modern era?
