TSA = A Dearth of Common Sense

Federal Government Plans to Allow Knives, Baseball Bats, and Golf Clubs On Board Commercial Airliners, but not Water or Juice Brought from the Outside

Government’s proclivity for enacting rules and regulations that are devoid of common sense is evident in the plan to allow airline passengers to bring baseball bats, golf clubs, and certain pocket knives on board beginning April 25.

Not only will allowing these items on airliners place passengers and flight crews at risk, but the specifications as to what type of knives will be permitted will cause debate, argument, and delay at TSA stations throughout airports, precisely what we do not need amidst flight experiences that have been made miserable enough since the attack on our nation of 11 September 2001.

To allow items that can be used as weapons at a time that the passenger may not bring a bottle of juice or water on board unless purchased after passing through security checkpoints is the height of foolishness.

It is gratifying to note that passengers, airline officials, TSA workers and their union are uniting to protest the easing of restrictions on these items. The TSA has recognized that there are still a large number o individuals who hate us and want to hurt us, precisely why items that can be used as weapons must not be carried on to commercial airliners. What legitimate need would there be for an individual to have access to a pocket knife while in the air?  Surely a half-ounce bag of salty peanuts can be opened without the use of one.  Let us hope that TSA administrators come to their senses before April 25, the date the ban is scheduled to be lifted.
