The Biden Performance—Something of Which to be Proud?

Biden's boorish behavior praised by the Democratic faithful.

I have seen morning after email messages from Democratic Party officials all the way up to President Obama in which the authors purport to be thrilled with and proud of the debate performance of Vice President Biden.

On the plus side for the Democrats is that Biden made no notable gaffes, surely triggering sighs of relief among the party faithful. Perhaps that is because his strategy was focused on interrupting, inappropriate laughter, and being rude, condescending, mocking, and disrespectful to his opponent, the distinguished Paul Ryan, whom the vice president obviously regards as insignificant, a young pipsqueak to the "elder statesman".

One can disagree without being disagreeable, a point apparently lost on the vice president. He would receive his just deserts if his treatment of Rep. Ryan made his target into a sympathetic figure in the minds of the public.

If the bullying manner of Mr. Biden is what our president truly finds to be appealing, what does that say about him?
