Gun-Toting Thugs Terrorize Downtown Pittsburgh

Although Downtown Pittsburgh daylight shootings have not become commonplace...yet...the phenomenon is deeply disturbing and must be addressed.  So long as armed imbeciles with no regard for human life visit heavily traveled areas with the intent to settle scores with deadly violence, there is the high potential for shots to be fired which strike innocent bystanders as could easily have occurred during the atrocity of Friday, 5 April, in front of The Capital Grille. 

Society is not powerless so long as it chooses to utilize the many tools available to it to address the matter. New York City Police have used "stop and frisk" to great advantage. New York City also dispenses lengthy prison sentences to those that are in possession of a gun in violation of law. Its strategies must be adopted here. It is no accident that the homicide rate in New York has dropped to historic levels, that far fewer individuals are murdered in New York than in Chicago, a city with a fraction of New York's population. Some believe that the U. S. citizen's greatest threat emanates from the leaders of Iran and North Korea, and from Al Qaeda sympathizers.  I am far more concerned about the gun-toting savages that walk our streets alongside us every day.  They must be stopped.
