Dissecting the Boston Atrocity with the Hope of Minimizing the Possibility of Such Horror in the Future

Why Was the Benefit of the Doubt Given to a Man that Had Demonstrated Signs of Anti-American Radicalization? Can a Dysfunctional Congress Learn the Reason?

It would be naïve to believe that our nation can defend against every threat to its people, particularly those perpetrated by terrorists of the “lone wolf” variety, but it is deeply distressing to learn that the deceased alleged Boston Marathon bomber and barbarian had been very much on the radar screen of our government and apparently, that of Russia, since at least 2011, that he had been monitored to some extent and interviewed by the FBI at least once, possibly multiple times, but not deemed to be a serious enough threat to merit further scrutiny.

How can it be in a post-September 11, 2001 world that there appear still to be problems in communication between government agencies that are charged with preserving our safety, and how can it be that when there is legitimate question about whether a foreign-born resident that has demonstrated a hatred for our society is in this country for legitimate reasons, that he is given the benefit of the doubt, permitted to remain here and to return here after a visit to an area of Russia that is a known hotbed of anti-Americanism and terror?

We are spending a vast fortune for various types of security and surveillance.  It is realistic to ask what our money is securing for us, given another apparent intelligence failure.  Let us hope that a dysfunctional Congress can somehow rise to the occasion to get to the bottom of it so that we have the best chance of avoiding the horror and misery that have been inflicted on so many innocent people in the Boston region.
