County Council District 5: Means versus Harris: A Clean Race!

Sue Means, an Honorable Campaigner, Gets My Endorsement

I applaud County Council candidates Sue Means and Krista Harris for being anomalies in this vicious election cycle, both of them running a clean campaign which is not an insult and affront to the voters.  Given Sue Means' track record in running for office, I am delighted, but not surprised that she has acted honorably.

Campaign material was left in my door for the Means campaign, indicating that either she or someone acting on her behalf visited my street.  This is impressive and demonstrates the hard work that is being devoted to a Means victory.

I had planned to give serious consideration to the Harris candidacy until I read in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette endorsement of Ms Means that Ms Harris was not informed and ready to discuss the issues, one example being a lack of familiarity with the issue of a change in the manner in which the county completes and posts restaurant sanitation ratings.  This indicates that she does not read newspapers.  I do not want my county councilperson to be less informed than I am.

I believe Ms Means when she states that she will spend public money as if it is coming out of her pocket and that she will act with her constituents interests at heart at all times.

I plan to vote for Sue Means on Tuesday notiwthstanding her unfortunate boast of being Pro-Second Amendment, which I see as code for permitting no restrictions on allowing virtually any individual to amass an arsenal of lethal weapons, weapons which all too often wind up in the hands of the homicidal and mentally unstable.  I do not believe a county councilperson would be in a position to act on the gun menace in any way, so this issue becomes moot.
