Church Molestation Scandal Intensifies

Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony Presided Over a Conspiracy to Destroy the Lives of Innocent Children - What Would Constitute Justice?

As more information is released about the pervasive, longstanding priest molestation scandal in the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese, the average citizen can recognize and attempt to digest the extent to which horror was allowed to be perpetrated against young boys by those in positions of trust and authority.

Documents recently made public make it clear that the church operated not so as to protect children at all, but to shield degenerate priests from legal jeopardy and the church from unfavorable publicity, and now, the scheme has blown up in its face.

Roger Mahony, a kingpin in this criminal conspiracy, who served as Cardinal of the Archdiocese from 1985 through 2011, has apologized for his “mistakes,” having the gall to state that he did not recognize the long-term harm that is inflicted on children when they are molested by a priest! Is it plausible that such stark ignorance afflicted one of the most powerful figures in this organization, that the individual who oversaw those responsible for bringing comfort, inspiration, and peace to their flock would not be aware of what is obvious to the reasonable and prudent individual?

The Cardinal has met with dozens of the victims, and assures us that he keeps the them near and dear to his heart, praying for them daily. I am sure that is of enormous comfort to those that were targeted, who along with their families, will be dealing with the effects of the abuse for the rest of their lives.

If Cardinal Mahony and the molesters he shuffled around are shielded from legal action as appears likely due to the statute of limitations, and if they are permitted to live out their days in peace and with respect from the faithful as holy men, then I would suggest that our society and our values are upside down.
