A Lying Scoundrel Returns to the U. S. House - Just What The Nation Needs!

Mark Sanford Proves that Character and Integrity are Overrated and That One Can Never Overestimate the Gullibility of the Electorate

It is obvious that the people of South Carolina are a forgiving bunch.  They had no compunction about awarding a coveted U. S. House seat to disgraced former Governor and House Member Mark Sanford.  Who cares if the candidate lied to the electorate in order to enjoy time away from it all with his mistress, and who could be concerned about his admission that he violated a court order by entering the home of his estranged wife without permission? These acetions are not reflective of character flaws, mind you, rather mere "mistakes" that can be washed away by looking people in the eye and appearing to be sincere and contrite. Character, integrity, and basic decency are overrated traits, are they not?

I am more ideologically akin to Mr. Sanford than his opponent, but I would have had great difficulty playing a role in the election of a scoundrel.  Is this the best we can do?  Is it any wonder that our elected officials do whatever they please, given our shoddy judgment in electing and re-electing them?
