Hi, I'm excited to share with you in the blog. My name is Missie Berteotti and I was a professional golfer on the LPGA for 14 years and now I play on the LPGA Legends Tour! I grew up right here in Pittsburgh, in Upper St. Clair. I know this is the case about Mental Mastery and only wish I would have realized this years ago! Thirty years ago, I wanted to be a pro. I worked my rear end off—did what I thought you were supposed to do—hit a lot of balls, practiced a lot, putted—and then I made it college and then the LPGA Tour! Life was great!
I kept doing what I was doing and I thought I’d get better on tour. But I didn’t. I became stagnant. I was good (pretty good), but I was not improving anymore—no matter how much I practiced. It was so infuriating. Golf became hard, really serious, I didn’t enjoy golf anymore. Wow, what do you do?
What I did was to start to learn even more about Mental Mastery; conversations such as how to trust yourself, how and when to train, how to train with a high level of awareness, how to look at mistakes, how to relate to failure, how to deal with my concern of disappointing someone, letting go of anger, learning how to communicate with your coach openly, how to NOT TRY too much. That is what I needed to continue to improve! That is where you will rise to be the champion you want to be! That is where the game of life is too!!
We will have these discussions in an indoor classroom where we get a chance to swing some golf clubs and simulate practice sessions where we practice training, practice trusting, practice our body language, look at our own coachability, and practice self awareness.
