Homecoming 2011: Good Vibrations

USCHS hosts its annual Homecoming dance on Oct. 1, 2011 for an evening filled with dancing and friends.

Last Saturday, Upper St. Clair High School hosted the annual Homecoming dance as the culmination of the school's Spirit Week.

From "snappy casual" to beach attire, the high school saw many daring and even humorous looks throughout the week. All of the excitement, though, was simply building up to the big hurrah on Saturday night.

The student government did an excellent job in transforming the theater entrance and athletic wing from academic to pirate-themed. On Friday night and Saturday morning, students labored over parrot-shaped name tags and scenery that appeared to be out of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean film. After hours of preparation, there was no detail that had been left untouched.

Girls spent Saturday morning primping and prepping for the big night out, while the guys got to relax and just hang out with friends. After pictures and dinner, students congregated in the nutrition center of the high school to swap silly stories from dinner. Girls gabbed about each other's dresses, jewelry, and shoes, even commenting on the dapper attire worn by the guys that evening. Their suits and crisp ties were a far cry from the basketball shorts and sweats that usually dominate the high school male wardrobe.

After a while of catching up with friends, students headed into the gym for a dance-filled evening. The strobe lights and DJ created the perfect environment for students to have some fun and let loose after the first few grueling weeks of school. Students danced the night away to popular hits from the Black Eyed Peas and Nicki Minaj, only interrupted by the quintessential slow song, for that one and only slow dance. Freshman awkwardness aside, couples gathered for a handful of the DJ's slower picks of the night. The music sped up once more, and the evening ended with the class of 2012's senior song, "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

By the end of the dance, students were not ready to part with their friends quite yet. Groups formed and made impromptu plans to keep the fun going on for just a while longer. All around USC, students gathered with close pals to watch movies, play games or simply hang out. In the end, Homecoming 2011 was quite the success.
