Happy Thanksgiving!
People everywhere will celebrate on Thursday with food, fellowship and a nap.
I would have to say that Thanksgiving is, unequivocally, my favorite holiday. Family members flung far across the country go to extraordinary lengths to be together; college students have mini reunions with high school classmates; people invite acquaintances who might otherwise spend the day alone to join in the fun.
I like it because it is a holiday based on inclusion and tolerance, celebrated by an eclectic mix of people. Everything that normally divides us takes a back seat to the common goal of joining family and friends for a feast of epic proportions involving guilt-free eating.
Thanksgiving is a celebration of our connectedness. Regardless of religion, political persuasion or anything else that causes us not to listen to each other we are able to put aside our differences and break bread together.
