Rookie FTC Teams Gear Up for Competition

In August, 2013, the Titanium Titan FIRST Robotics Team #4467 and the Creative Learning Collaborative hosted a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) program introduction at the Western Area Career & Technology Center in Canonsburg. Over 30 students throughout the South Hills of Pittsburgh attended, to create the first FTC robotics teams ever in the South Hills area. Two Rookie FTC teams of 10 students each were formed, Team Tech-No-Logic #7143 and Team A.I.R. #7058. Students from Upper Saint Clair, Peters Township and Canonsburg joined together to design and build a 2' x 2' robot for the 2014 FTC Competition - see the 2014 Competition Game here.http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ftc/game

After three months of learning about programming, electrical wiring and the mechanics of building a robot, the two teams are ready to put their robotic designs to the test! Team Tech-No-Logic #7143 attended a Rookie FTC Regional Tournament at Owen J Roberts High School on Saturday, January 11, 2014 and swept into 4th place out of 26 teams. Their robot was designed to pick up and place blocks into a moving pendulum goal, and to drive up a ramp and hang fully suspended from a bar at the top. They were the only team to consistently hang from the bar, but were defeated in the finals due to a technical malfunction.

Teams Tech-No-Logic #7143 and A.I.R. #7058 are now gearing up to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge Southwestern PA Regional Tournament, held at Shady Side Academy on Saturday, January 18 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free - come cheer them on!

These Rookie teams are able exist and compete thanks to generous donations from team sponsors, including Ansys, The Proud Company, Gillece Heating and Plumbing, Silhol, and more, listed on the Creative Learning Collaborative website.
