Local Organization Chosen to Become Project WET Host Institution

The Outdoor Classroom will be one of 150 in the world.

The Outdoor Classroom, located in Upper St. Clair and servicing the southwestern Pennsylvania region, has become the United States’ 72nd Project WET host institution. There are only 150 other Project WET host institutions in 60 countries.

As a host institution, The Outdoor Classroom will train formal and non-formal educators to teach children and youth about water resources in engaging ways that promote responsible water stewardship.

"We’re excited," said Laurina Isabella Lyle, executive director of Project WET USA. "With its amazing location in the heart of Boyce Mayview Park and established history of helping people of all ages connect with the environment through hands-on learning, The Outdoor Classroom is the perfect organization to teach educators in southwestern Pennsylvania about the importance of water and how best to share that knowledge with their students."

"Becoming a part of the Project WET USA team enables The Outdoor Classroom to utilize and offer such a wonderful, interactive curriculum to students and educators in southwestern Pennsylvania," said Jessica Kester, program manager at The Outdoor Classroom.  "Project WET Foundation’s mission and ours are so closely intertwined that combining our efforts to connect with individuals of all ages is a natural step in becoming a stronger resource here in the Pittsburgh area."

The first Project WET training at The Outdoor Classroom will be held in conjunction with Lyle from the Project WET Foundation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 2 and 3  at the Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park.
