6th Annual South Park Flag Retirement Ceremony

The specially designed burn receptacle located at the heart of the South Park Flag Retirement Plaza is ready for the tattered United States' flags to be place inside it and set aflame in honor of their service to the country.

The South Park Flag Retirement Plaza will be a focal point during the 2011 South Park Flag Retirement Ceremony. The retirement plaza is located in South Park behind the Children's Theatre. The Allegheny County Council hosts the annual event to commemorate our veterans and to properly retire as outlined by the U.S. Code the flags that tirelessly serve our nation. Local boy scouts and veterans will dispose of worn United States’ flags by placing them into the burn pit.

County Council Members, local elected officials, JROTC cadets, various veterans’ organizations, performers and others will participate in the afternoon event to display respect for the flags and for veterans who selflessly serve the country in the name of freedom. The Council President Jim Burn will act as the master of ceremonies. All are welcome to attend as guests.
